So when the last and dreadful hour
This crumbling pageant shall devour,
The trumpet shall be heard on high,
The dead shall live, the living die,
And music shall untune the sky.
John Dryden, 1687

Update: January 19, 2018

This is the lullaby that has haunted Persephone since the end of of The Dead Shall Live.

The harpsichord’s notes like delicate drops of poison dripping onto oh-so fragile crystal bells.

Bells that quiver to the edge of cracking under the assault of each drop.

But do not crack.

Do not break.

Will always remain in their fragile state to catch the poison and faintly echo its refrain.

To haunt her with the lullaby her beloved Cosmo always sang to her…

For the rest of her black, black days.

This is the lullaby that has haunted Persephone since the end of of The Dead Shall Live.

With thanks once more to the gifted Adrian Von Ziegler, whose music has haunted and driven my muse for a very long time.

It is pure serendipity that Adrian is the same age as Cosmo in The Dead Shall Live and that he bears a resemblance to him right down to the long, straight[ish] hair.

And that they both received a magical Gift from the gods…

Music.
